Garnett Healthy, Ready for Season

With the start of NBA training camp this week, there are few questions circling the NBA right now more important than “How is Kevin Garnett’s knee holding up?”

According to himself and his teammates, the big fella should be ready to go and back to normal.

“No setbacks… almost 100 percent and going forward,” Garnett said about his knee. “Better than anything, I’m playing without any pain, which is something that I haven’t had for quite some time now, so I’m looking forward to it.”

Garnett’s teammate Paul Pierce said that Garnett walking into media day on Monday was “like a breath of fresh air” for the Celtics. With a mysterious blank 18th banner hanging from the rafters of the their practice facility, the expectations surrounding the franchise are clearly high this season – and heavily depend on the health of Garnett.

“I feel pretty good,” he said. “I don’t like to take time off. But it was for good reasons. My leg is right on schedule to where it’s supposed to be and mentally I’m refreshed. I think everybody is.

Rondo Ready to Balance Egos

Take one All Star in Paul Pierce. Add two more in Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen. Watch the three win a championship in their first year together.

Be their leader that year. And now, add Rasheed Wallace to the mix.

This is what Rajon Rondo has to think about going into this upcoming NBA season. Rondo acknowledges that his job can be tough sometimes, but he believes himself ready to deal with the challenges.

The biggest struggle for Rondo, typically, is getting out of the offensive, score-score-score mindset that Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant and others have popularized for today’s NBA player. Rondo recognizes that he doesn’t need to put up 30 points a game for the Celtics to win. And luckily for the Celtics, he claims to be one of those point guards who likes racking up assists more than points.

With the firepower on the Celtics, if Rondo does his job and racks up the assists this year, the Celtics could be back in the NBA Eastern Conference Finals - at least.
