Celtics fall short of NBA title

The Boston Celtics saw a 13-point lead and their NBA title hopes vanish in thin air in an 83-79 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Boston did an outstanding job of shutting down Kobe Bryant, who had a miserable shooting night.

Without Kendrick Perkins in the lineup, the Celtics had no answer down low for the Lakers’ height. ( Read More…)

Perkins to miss Game 7

Boston Celtics center Kendrick Perkins will miss Game 7 of the NBA Finals with a knee injury.

Perkins injured his knee in the second quarter of Game 6 when he landed awkwardly after jumping for a rebound.

He immediately pointed to his knee and went to the ground in pain before being helped off the floor. ( Read More…)

Celtics even up series, 103-94

The Boston Celtics bounced back with a 103-94 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers to even up the series at 1-1.

Ray Allen knocked down eight three-pointers to lead Boston and Rajon Rondo finished with a triple-double.

Rondo bounced back from what was a disappointing performance in a Game 1 defeat.

The series now shifts back to Boston for Games 3, 4 and 5, before heading back to Los Angeles for Games 6 and 7 if necessary.

Celtics fall to Lakers, 102-89

The Boston Celtics kept it close early but were never close in the second half of a 102-89 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Kobe Bryant scored 30 points, but the Celtics really had problems with Pau Gasol and Ron Artest.

The Celtics were pushed around by a Lakers team who had the same thing happen to them in the 2008 NBA Finals.

The game got off to a rough start, with Paul Pierce and Artest getting tangled up and both being assessed technical fouls.

Pierce led the Celtics with 24 points while Garnett added 16. Rajon Rondo was not a factor.

Rondo a go for Game 1

Despite not being at full strength, Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo said he’ll start on Thursday in Game 1 of the NBA Finals against the Los Angeles Lakers.

On Tuesday, Rondo said “I’m about 67 percent today. I won’t be 100 percent by Thursday, but I’ll be like 94.7.”

Rondo took a bad spill in the Celtics’ decisive Game 6 victory over the Orlando Magic last Friday in the Eastern Conference Finals. He had been suffering back spasms earlier in that series, and was limited in practice on Monday before taking part in the entire session on Tuesday.

Boston figures to have a sizeable advantage at the point guard position if Rondo is healthy. Lakers veteran guard Derek Fisher, while crafty and capable of hitting big shots, was torched by a similarly-athletic Russell Westbrook of the Oklahoma City Thunder in the opening round of the playoffs. Rondo could be the difference for the Celtics.
